Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes, we are a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and all contributions are tax deductible. If you donate online, you will receive an email confirmation that can be printed and used for tax purposes.
If you donate food we will weigh it and provide a receipt upon drop off.

Both dollars and food donations are greatly appreciated. However, cash donations tend to stretch further. This is because we partner with Second Harvest Heartland to purchase more food per dollar than individuals can at retail.
-
We gratefully accept nonperishable items like canned vegetables, fruit, beans, soups, tuna, peanut butter, pasta, rice, oatmeal and cereal. We also welcome fresh produce from personal home gardens — just bring it whole and unprocessed.
We especially appreciate items that work for people with specific dietary needs: low-sodium, diabetic-friendly, and gluten-free options are always welcome.
-
"Sell by" and "best by" dates are about quality, not safety. They indicate when a product is at its peak freshness. Many canned and dry goods remain perfectly good well after these dates.
We accept food past its sell-by or best-by date as long as the packaging is intact and the item looks and smells normal. If you're unsure, give us a call before dropping it off.
-
We appreciate the thought, but unfortunately we are not able to accept homemade baked goods, home-canned or home-jarred items, or home-processed meats. This is a food safety requirement. We can only distribute processed items that have gone through a regulated production or inspection process.
However, fresh whole produce from your garden (like tomatoes, zucchini, or apples) is always welcome!
-
We know a lot of Sibley County folks are hunters and anglers, and we appreciate you thinking of us when you're cleaning out the freezer! However, raw or unprocessed meat and fish must go through an official inspection process before we can distribute it.
If you have commercially packaged, inspected meat or canned fish, that's absolutely welcome.
-
Drop off hours are every Monday and Wednesday from 11 AM to 6 PM. And the first Friday of the Month from 9 to 11 AM.

Yes! Personal hygiene items are always in high demand and we're grateful for them. Items we can use include:
Diapers (all sizes)
Bar soap
Shampoo
Toothbrushes and toothpaste
Toilet paper

Our focus is food and personal care items, so we have limited space for other kinds of donations. Please call us before dropping off anything outside of food and hygiene products so we can let you know if we have a current need and space to accept it.
